Abstract
This project is located in the eastern Cordillera, on its western flank, in the so-called Western Emeralds Belt, in the Department of Boyacá, in the town of Maripí, in the Emeralds Chaparral Mine. This project is based on the identification of geological structures in the title DJU-151 in order to find mineralization of emeralds The project was developed in 3 main stages. The first consists of a collection of bibliographical information of the area both in recognition of studies carried out and geological maps raised in the area. The second is a field stage divided into two:-structural data taking in surface and-data taking underground, in the Chaparral tunnel, which identified the contacts between the main sedimentary formations of the Lower Cretaceous present in the study area, these are Furatena Formation of the time of the Valanginiano, the Muzo Formation corresponding to the period between the Hauteriviano to the Barremiano and the Capotes Formation of the period between the late Aptian to early Albian. In the same way, the faults present in the study area were recognized, which are the fault of the Pirtucha and the fault of the mining river and in a regional way. The third stage consists of the elaboration of the geological map, geologic cuts and the final report. The information collected is the first step in the exploration of emeralds to establish deposits, also requires geochemistry, isotope study, among other studies that provide more information to be able to have a better certainty in locating this type of deposits.
