Economic Factors that Affect the Technical Efficiency Index of the Public Hospitals of the State of Nariño -Colombia 2008-2014

dc.descriptionThis paper analyzes the economic factors that affect the relative technical efficiency indexes of the public hospitals of the state of Nariño between 2008 and 2014. In this study, the TEI were calculated through data envelopment analysis (DEA) that evaluates the productive and relative performance of each hospital. The results indicate that, on average, 38.27% of hospitals operate efficiently from a product-oriented approach. Finally through econometrics models with panel data and fixed effects, the paper suggest that the potential demand, the hospital services portfolio and the installed capacity, explains the variations of the technical efficiency measurements obtained.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo analiza los factores económicos que inciden sobre el índice de eficiencia técnica relativa de los hospitales públicos del departamento de Nariño entre 2008 y 2014. En primera instancia, se calculan los índices de eficiencia técnica mediante data envelopment analysis (DEA), para evaluar el desempeño productivo de cada hospital. Los resultados indican que, en promedio, el 38,27 % de los hospitales funciona de manera eficiente desde el enfoque output orientado. En la segunda etapa, haciendo uso de modelos econométricos con datos de panel y efectos fijos, se evidencia que la demanda potencial, la cartera hospitalaria y la capacidad instalada explican las variaciones de las mediciones de eficiencia técnica obtenidas.es-ES
